Chlamydia has too often been publicised as a problem that only affects women. Nothing could be further from the truth. The MTC Chlamydia Test kit is a Home based Laboratory Test kit for detecting Chlamydia Trachomatis antibodies in men. Men who test positive for Chlamydia can experience a dramatic decrease in their fertility. Chlamydia is the most common cause of inflammation in the testicles and sperm-conducting tubes. This causes pain, swelling and redness in the scrotum. Chlamydia infection can also trigger joint inflammation in some men.

Why do I need this test?

Chlamydia is passed on during unprotected sexual intercourse, so if you have unprotected sexual intercourse you are at risk of being infected. Chlamydia is known as a "silent" disease because the majority of infected men have no symptoms.

What does the test involve

The male chlamydia test is conducted by taking a sample of your urine and sending it to our accredited laboratory for professional analysis. The chlamydia test results remain completely confidential - only you can access the result. Results are sent to your private email address. For more information please contact us.

Consider the following

  • Home delivery, discreet packaging, same day shipping.
  •  Easy to use
  •  Quick Results.
  •  High sensitivity and specificity.
  •  No additional instrumentation required.
  • Cost Effective.

How accurate is the test?

The test is performed by laboratory professionals therefore it is extremely accurate.

 What comes with the test?

  • A sealed plastic bag containing a screw top container.
  • A urine sample bottle.
  • An envelope addressed to our Laboratory.
  • Easy to understand instructions.
  • Customer Information Form, this must be returned with your urine sample.

How to conduct the Male Chlamydia Test

Please make sure you read the instructions carefully before carrying out the chlamydia test. It is easiest to collect urine first thing in the morning as the urine is most concentrated. Alternatively you can take a sample of urine at any time, but wait at least two hours since you last passed urine to donate a sample.

Instructions

  1. Unscrew the container and remove the urine sample bottle.
  2. Unscrew the lid from the urine sample bottle. Urinate into the bottle, ensuring you catch the first drops of urine. Continue until the bottle is full to the line on the sample bottle marked 20ml.
  3. Tightly screw the lid back on to the urine bottle to avoid leakage.
  4. On the bottle there is a label, in the spaces provided write in your name, date, sex and time of collection.
  5. Place the urine sample bottle in to the plastic container. Screw the lid back on to the outer plastic container firmly.
  6. Place the plastic container back into the plastic bag and seal.
  7. Fill in the customer information form in clear block capitals.
  8. Place and the completed form and sample container containing the urine sample in to the marked envelope.
  9. Seal the envelope.
  10.  Post the envelope as soon as possible.

Results

Once the sample arrives in the laboratory, results are produced in 3 working days. The Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test that your sample will be tested with is one of the most accurate tests available at present. To ensure you receive maximum confidentiality, your report will be emailed to you. If you do not provide an email address the results will be sent to you through the post. Your results will not be given over the telephone.

There are three possible results that you could get:

PCR NEGATIVE: This means that the bacteria chlamydia trachomatis was not detected in the urine sample you provided. However, it is important to remember that on rare occasions you can get a negative result, when you do in fact have the infection. The reason for this is that it can take up to six weeks for Chlamydia to incubate in your system once you have contracted it. Incubation is the interval period between exposure to the infection until the appearance of the first symptoms. If a test is conducted during this period it is likely that the result will be negative when in fact you have contracted chlamydia. For this reason is may be beneficial to get another test conducted after the incubation period has elapsed.

PCR POSITIVE: This means that you almost certainly have Chlamydia infection and you will need to start treatment with a course of antibiotics as soon as you can. If you receive a positive result we recommend that you attend your local clinic or your doctor for treatment.

PCR EQUIVOCAL: This occurs when the laboratory cannot provide a definite result. This can be because other substances in the sample, for example blood in the urine, or certain medications are affecting the result. In these cases the safest course of action is to repeat the test on a fresh sample. In the event of an equivocal result a new test will be sent to you automatically.

PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE ORDEREDING THIS TEST FOR ANOTHER PERSON, PLEASE STATE THEIR NAME AND EMAIL ADDRESS IN THE "Add comment about your order:" SECTION OF THE PAYMENTS PAGE.

REMEMBER: If the test is positive consult your doctor for antibiotics.
